The edits were not great
What wasn't great about Frozen Empire's editing?
and a lot of lead up for a nothing villain.
A "nothing villain"? What constituted "nothing"? Because we saw Garraka damage the Containment Unit, escape his brass orb, kill several people, freeze New York, and nearly won.
Garraka is close to, if not level-pegged with Vigo in terms of influence and on-screen action.
but the others...why are they there?
Frozen Empire doesn't make as good use of Trevor as Afterlife did, but his presence there provides continuity (I think his absence would've been a bit too glaring, it's kinda like how it's rather notable how Dana Freeling is missing from Poltergeist II [for obvious real-world reasons], how all the Freelings bar Carol-Ann are missing in Poltergeist III, how Dr. Laurel Weaver is missing from Men in Black II-onwards, Val McKee in Tremors 2, etc.), comic relief from his misadventures with Slimer, some of his technical-know-how with fixing Ecto-1, and his insightful observation that the hidden room in Nadeem's grandmother's apartment was an audio dead space.

Not including Callie would also have been a notable absence... And you can't well have her kids going around busting Ghosts without her supervising. To have not had her in the movie would position her as suddenly having become the absent parent that she resented Egon for years for being.
In Frozen Empire, she's clearly the team's new leader, and thematically, she's also the comic-relief-relief, making sure the more serious aspects and ramifications of what the Ghostbusters are doing is not forgotten.
I'd honestly rather see a new team in a series being set up with Ray and Winston guest starring for a few episodes to help them get set up.
That may still happen, depending on either the new animated series, or whatever Ghost Corps' plans are.
only IP I've seen where the fans have a better grasp of what the future of the story should be then the creators.
If I had a dollar every time I saw a fan write that. :P (No nastiness intended, just light-hearted jesting)
(not the yellow bumper stuff)
But that is the newest iteration of the Proton Packs, it would be a bit strange for a new team that's been authorised by Zeddemore Industries not to use the updated version of the Packs developed by Winston's engineers.
having to keep letting ghosts out of ECU every few films so they give the GB's a reason to stay in business.
Frozen Empire established that New York (and the world) was seeing an increase in paranormal activity not related to Garraka's presence, the Ghostbusters wouldn't need the accidental release of the ghosts from the Containment Unit because they were already seeing an uptick in calls... It'd be like throwing a bucket of water into a river that's already overflowing.
GB 1 - zeros to heroes/underdog story
GB 2 - second chances/being excellent to each other
GB 3 - forgiveness/coming of age/discovering your roots
GB 4 - learning from the mistakes you've made, finding your place in the world (either as a teenager, a step-father, entering retirement or going through life with no direction), discovering your hidden inner talents.
Ok so...I have a lot to reply to the posts you made but really...I just don't care enough about this film to argue. The film is poorly made, edited and in a lot of areas is a weak film. Doesn't mean people can't enjoy it. If you do then great. really but I was just answering a question on the post, wasn't looking to bisect views of it.
