I would take it to a seamstress and get their opinion on what happened and the cost to repair it, and either ask for a refund of that amount, or send them the seamstress' opinion and ask for a new suit. The whole idea around ripstop fabric is in the name...Not to disregard OPs issue, but I wear ripstop shirts for work, every day, and trust me those things rip like there's no tomorrow. It's at the point I don't bother replacing them until after a 12 month period, I just patch them, otherwise I'd be getting new shirts every few weeks.
