After watching the RGB episode "Banshee Bake a Cherry Pie", that features part of a song called "Love Makes Me Live", I googled the title and part of the lyrics to know more about it.
I found Paul Rudoff's investigation page about the song, which identifies the author as Noam Kaniel, while Dennys McCoy and his wife Pamela Hickey gave the title to the song.
But this video of the Italian version has a commenter ask where she could listen to the whole song.
A Bon Jovi fan replied: "Listen to the song "You Give Love a Bad Name", by Bon Jovi. It's the same."
I searched that song and listened to it. While not exactly the same, it's pretty similar.
So I googled for the release date of the episode (October 28, 1987) and the release date of Bon Jovi's song (July 23, 1986). So far, it looks like whoever performed "Love Makes Me Live" plagiarized "You Give Love a Bad Name". But then, things get muddled.
WhoSampled states that Bon Jovi's song contains a sample from Bonnie Tyler's song "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)".
According to Second Hand Songs, Bonnie Tyler's song was released on April 7, 1986, so it makes it look like it was the original... except that some dates don't add up.
Paul Rudoff's page reports the presence of the song in an alternate recording of the "I Have The Power" music video from the 1985 animated film "The Secret of the Sword".
1985? Before Bon Jovi and Bonnie Tyler? Did they plagiarize Noam Kaniel?
And then there's another quote on Paul Rudoff's page. Dennys McCoy wrote: "So we knew if we called the song LOVE MAKES ME LIVE, that Shuki and Noam would dig out all their old Eurovision entries and find something that fit the title."
Eurovision? Did Shuki Levy and Noam Kaniel send that song to a Eurovision contest? When? Are there recordings of it?
