Ghostbusters Video Games • I just got a joke from a 36-year-old game

The game is Ghostbusters 2 for Amiga. The first level is a recreation of the scene where Ray is lowered into the subway tunnel to collect a sample of slime, except that in this version, he has his proton pack on his back, there are dozens of ghosts coming from all directions that you must hit while descending, and there are powerups you can collect to help you progress.

Every time a ghost touches Ray, his courage decreases, and when it reaches 0, he falls. But you can replenish part of his courage with one of the powerups, a bottle that the manual calls "elixir".
The manual makes it sound like a potion of some sort, but Wikipedia's definition of "elixir" is: "a hydro-alcoholic solution of at least one active ingredient". And in Frozen Throne, Peter offers the others a flask of alcohol and asks: "Courage?"

So that's the joke! Ray gets courage by getting liquored up!

And now, two considerations about the game:
- First, it's a port from Atari ST, which means 16 colors. A real shame, the Amiga could've done a lot better.
- The developers really dropped the ball by not including the scene at the courthouse with the Scoleri brothers. The level could've been an easier version of level 3 (the final showdown against Vigo), set in the courthouse instead of the museum, to let players get the hang of the mechanics of controlling 4 ghostbusters and positioning them correctly for the attacks.
