I've moved some posts over from The Future topic because they felt more in-keeping in the talkback thread here.
In regard to Melody and Phoebe... I feel their on-screen scenes would've attracted a lot less criticism had their relationship not been queer-coded to a degree (I'm not accusing anyone in this current part of the discussion of being homophobic, but I have seen plenty of homophobic remarks on Facebook).
There've been plenty of other character plots/relationships in recent movies that contributed less than Melody and Phoebe's scenes did, yet haven't attracted anywhere nearly as much focus and criticism.
I will concede that it does come at the expense of having more scenes with Winston, but this is the awkward position we're in of having to juggle two casts because it's a slow-burn passing-of-the-torch.
